The most beautiful places of the black forest
The Black Forest Grand Tour to the Schauinsland includes many of the most beautiful places in the black forest: mountains, rivers, villages and towns. Your private guide is picking you up at your hotel oder Ferienwohnung, as the Germans call holiday lets.
The first stop on your scenic journey to the Schauinsland is the Mummelsee, which is the place of many black forest legends. A walk around this lake is optional and will take 45 minutes. Enjoy the amazing views onto Upper Rhine Valley and the distant Vosges mountains.
As we are driving along scenic mountain roads our journey to the Schauinsland continues. Our next stop on our route will be in Freudenstadt, one of the most beautiful villages in the black forest. Here we will follow in the footsteps of George V of the United Kingdom, the Queen of Sweden, John D. Rockefeller, and even the American writer Mark Twain.
Our whistlestop in Freudenstadt is followed by the longest stretch of driving as our next stop is the town of Triberg, birthplace of the black forest cuckoo clock and home of the Triberg Waterfalls, which are among the highest waterfalls in Germany. Triberg is the entry point to the Gutach and Kinzig valley. On the high street you will find many cuckoo clock shops and also will have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional black forest ham sandwich.
The Schauinsland is the Freiburger Black Forest Mountain
After our stop in Triberg we continue towards the Schauinsland. On our way will pass the famous Titisee and of course make a short photostop before the road takes us up to the Feldberg, the highest mountain of the Black Forest, which has an elevation of 4898ft.
Another short drive on our scenic black forest roads brings us finally to the Schauinsland. The Schauinsland is towering proudly above Freiburg, the unoffical capital of the Black Forest. From here we have once again an amazing view over the upper rhine valley, this time from a southern direction. Of course we have a stop at the top of the Schauinsland giving you plenty of time to take photos.
But finally it is time to leave the Schauinsland. The roads down to Freiburg has many bends and turns but this is compensated by the most scenic views on our way. Our Black Forest Grand Tour ending at the Schauinsland ends back at your accommodation.
