Hofgut Sternen & the Ravenna Gorge – 700 years of Blackforest History and Culture meet the present
Like so many of our Black Forest day tours, this trip will show you yet another part of our most beautiful region.
On this Black Forest tour, our journey will initially lead us parallel to the river Dreisam, a tributary to the river Rhine, before heading into the Black Forest and the Höllental valley. During the 40-minute drive we will talk about history, culture, religion and farming in the Black Forest before arriving at Hofgut Sternen. For 700 years there has been an inn at this location which can boast of illustrious guests: Marie-Antoinette, the tragic queen of France stayed here on her journey to France from her native Austria as well as the most famous German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
From here we take a short hike into the Ravenna Gorge with plenty of photo opportunities and you will learn about the history of this magic place. On our return from the little hike we will visit the Oswald chapel, the oldest parish church in the Black Forest. Then we will discover the art of glass blowing and cuckoo clock making at Hofgut Sternen. Your Black Forest tour ends with a slice of Black Forest gateau and a cup of coffee before we return to Freiburg.
