Blackforest Farming yesterday, today and tomorrow
This Black Forest day trip takes you through one of the most picturesque parts of the area as well as through the history of farming in the region. We will enjoy a scenic drive passing through quaint little villages before stopping for a photo stop at Landwassereck to enjoy the breath-taking views at 2130 feet above sea level.
From there we will make our way to the world famous Open-Air Museum Vogtsbauernhof in Gutach. It started out in the 1960s with one old farmhouse that was turned into a museum to document the living and working conditions of farmers in this beautiful yet rough environment. Over the last four decades historic farmhouses from other parts of the Black Forest have been transferred to Gutach to create a unique museum about farming here throughout the centuries. Gutach is also the home of the world famous Bollenhut that has become the symbol of the Black Forest.
A few miles away lies the old Kappelehof, a traditional farmhouse which was turned into an inn in 1738. This is the perfect location for your three-course lunch on your Black Forest tour including stunning views.
To complete the experience, we take a look at modern farm life after lunch when we visit a family-run farm in the quaint Kinzig valley with over 170 acres of forest and about 25 cows. Here we can explore the presence and the future of Black Forest farming.
