Churches in the Black Forest Our aim on this Black Forest day trip day is to explore the influence of the church on everyday life in the Black Forest throughout the centuries.
We will start our Black Forest day trip in Freiburg where we will be visiting two magnificent churches: the famous Freiburg Minster and for contrast St. Martin’s, the former church of the Franciscan monks. Both churches date back to the 13th century and have seen much change and turmoil. We will explain the main facts and features of these churches.
Afterwards, we will enjoy a scenic drive into the Kinzigtal valley where we will have have a three-course lunch at a traditional Black Forest Inn on whose grounds we find the “St. Wendelinus” Chapel, a family chapel unsurpassed in its simplicity and beauty. After lunch, we head to Haslach, a little town nearby where we will visit the Catholic parish church St. Arbogast. This unobtrusive church reveals a most unexpected beautiful interior with fine neo-classical architecture and decoration. To complete our ecclesiastical experience, our Black Forest day trip finally leads us to the former monastery church St. Peter in Gengenbach where we will take a closer look at how important monasteries have been in the development of settlements in the Black Forest. Your Black Forest tour will then return to Freiburg around 5:30 pm.
